This article explains what BOM's are and how to set this up.
What are BOMs?
BOMs are similar to KITS, where there is a parent product and then child products. However, you need the parent product in stock for the orders to allocate the stock.
To do this, there are the Implode and Explode options, which will create the parent product from the child product in stock and vice versa. This is used when you need to build a product up before it can be ordered.
How to set BOMs up.
For example, if there were a table and chairs, and we want to put them together to make a dining set. To do this, you would follow the steps below:
At the top, on the Setup tab, select Maintain Product.
Open the master product from the Product code field, for example, Dining Set.
Select the BOM section.
To add a new BOM line, on the right, click the + icon.
Enter the product code of the 1st BOM, for example: Table. Note: These child BOM products will need to have been added as products into the system before they can be added to this screen.
Enter the quantity, for example: 1.
To add a second BOM line, on the right, click the + icon.
Enter the product code of the 2nd BOM, for example: Chair.
Enter the quantity, for example: 4.
Click OK to save.
IMPLODE
This function enables you to implode or put together child products into the master parent product.
On the Stock Maintenance tab, select Implode. If you do not see this option, please see your onsite Delta administrator to add to your user access.
Type an accent code, site, date, reference and a reason of IMPLODE.
On the Product tab, to add a new line, click the plus + icon.
In the Product code section, enter the master parent product, for example a Dining Set. This will show the BOM child products. For example, this will show 1 table and 4 chairs.
Click OK. The stock is imploded. A master BOM product is created (or more if you enter more in the Quantity section), and remove the stock from the child BOM products.
⚠️Important: You can only Implode stock you have available in Delta, if you do not have enough stock in, you will not be able to implode the stock.
🤓Tip: For example, if we imploded 1 table and 4 chairs, this will remove 1 table and 4 chairs from stock, then add the master parent BOM product of a Dining Set.
EXPLODE
This function enables you to explode or take apart the child BOM products from the master parent product.
On the Stock Maintenance tab, select Explode. If you do not see this option, please see your on-site Delta administrator to add it to your user access.
Type an accent code, site, date, reference and a reason for EXPLODE.
On the Product tab, to add a new line, click the plus + icon.
In the Product code section, enter the master parent product, for example, a Dining Set. This will show what stock is available of the BOM parent product.
Select the stock to explode or take apart.
Click Confirm.
Type how many times to explode or take this apart.
Click Explode. This explodes the stock. This breaks the master BOM product down by removing this number of the master parent BOM product(s) from stock and entering the child BOM products into stock. For example, if we explode 1 Dining Set, this adds 1 table and 4 chairs into stock.
