Overview

Following certain Microsoft security updates, you may find that DeltaWMS fails to launch properly. The application may flash briefly on screen without displaying the login box or database dropdown. This issue is caused by changes to DCOM authentication levels introduced by Microsoft security updates. This article explains why this happens and how your IT team can resolve it.

Symptoms

When this issue occurs, you'll experience one or more of the following:

  • DeltaWMS flashes briefly when launched.

  • The login box doesn't appear.

  • The database dropdown is blank or doesn't display.

  • The application fails to establish a connection.

Why this happens

Microsoft has released security updates that change how applications communicate using DCOM (Distributed Component Object Model) services. These updates increase the authentication level required for DCOM applications to RPC_C_AUTHN_LEVEL_PKT_INTEGRITY, which can prevent DeltaWMS from launching correctly.

The Microsoft update addresses a security vulnerability CVE-2021-26414, which relates to DCOM server security feature bypass.

⚠️Important: This issue can only be resolved by your internal IT team. Our support team cannot make the necessary system-level changes to fix this issue.
